Alarm Standards and Licensing.
In Ireland it is illegal to have an alarm fitted unless it is done by a licensed alarm installer.
The body that issues licenses is called the Private Security Authority (PSA) which was set up by the governnment in 2006.
Alarm companies have to undergo a vigorous set of procedures in order to qualify for a license – these are listed below. The license has to be renewed every 2 years and all the procedures are repeated.
1. All employees and owners have to be vetted by the Gardai.
2. All installers must show that they have adequate training.
3. Installations carried out by the applicant installer must be up to the european standard EN 50131 for alarm installations and have to be inspected at random by inspectors appointed by the PSA.
4. The applicant must have an up to date Tax Clearance Certificate.
5. The applicant must have adequate public liability insurance in place.
So you can rest assured – if you hire a licensed installer you will be getting a reputable installer for your alarm system.
